Project Brief

Shiga Energy Pvt. Ltd. (SEPL), an independent power producer signed an MOU with the Sikkim Government on 3rd Sep 08 for the implementation of the 97 MW Tashiding Hydro-Electric Project (THEP) on a  Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis. The operational period extends for 35 years from commercial operation date of the project. Shiga Energy Pvt. Ltd is promoted by the DANS Group and is a special purpose vehicle for the implementation of THEP.

The Tashiding Hydroelectric Power Project, located in West Sikkim envisages the utilization of the flow of Rathong Chhu, a tributary of Rangit River for generating 97MW of electric power through two Francis units of 48.5MW each. All components of the Project are laid out on the right bank of the River. 

The main components of the Project are:
• A 40.25 m long barrage with 4 Nos. of spillway bays.
• Intake located on the right bank of the river upstream of the barrage.
• 5.7 Km long HRT of dia. 5.0 m D ‐ shaped concrete lined.
• Three numbers of construction adits of 6.0m D‐shape to facilitate construction of HRT.
• 234m long pressure shaft of 3.8 m diameter followed by 282m long surface penstock leading to surface power house.
• Surface power house located on the right bank of the river equipped with 2 nos. of vertical axis Francis turbines, each rated at 48.5 MW.

The plant will have an installed capacity of 97 MW and Design energy of 425.07 Mus.

SEPL has signed the long term PPA with Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC) for supply of power to Haryana Discom for the entire project life.
